School Lockdown: Incident near School in Sherborne, Dorset

Lockdown School Alert

Knife-wielding teenager causes Sherborne Preparatory School to go into lockdown

After several sightings of a teenager wielding a knife were reported in Sherborne, armed police were called to carry out a search, with the nearby school going into precautionary lockdown.

Children at the school were the first to see the teenager at around 1:40pm on Tuesday 18th September, with sightings then following in the town centre.

Dorset Police have confirmed that a 17-year-old boy was arrested, after being held on suspicion of possessing a bladed article in a public place, in addition to public order offences. No-one was harmed during the incident.

The head teacher of Sherborne Preparatory School, Nick Folland, said "A youth had been observed acting suspiciously and suspected of carrying a knife on the lane adjacent to the prep school. As a precautionary measure the prep school enacted its lock down procedure and informed parents of the incident and its management."

Current government advice on lockdown recommends using a system separate to your fire alarm to broadcast lockdown alerts, to avoid an incorrect response to an incident. Bodet’s School Lockdown Alert System allows you to broadcast a unique lockdown alert, separate to other emergency situations such as evacuation, using a range of remote and local trigger methods. Ensuring clear and instant communication across your entire school premises increases safety for both pupils and staff.

If you would like a free on-site demonstration to see how our Lockdown Alert System can be tailored for the individual needs of your school, please contact us.
