School Lockdown Alert: Surrey School goes into Lockdown following chemical spill

School Lockdown News

Gordon’s School in Woking went into lockdown as emergency services dealt with unknown chemical spill

Following reports of racist graffiti at an address in Lightwater, police attended the scene and a man was treated by paramedics after being taken unwell. Gordon’s School, a few miles away, went into a precautionary lockdown following police advice.

The school released the following statement: “The school is currently following police advice to local residents to keep windows and doors closed following several road closures in the area due to a suspected chemical incident. The students and staff are safe and indoors and will remain so until we receive further advice from the police.”

According to witnesses, racially offensive graffiti had been sprayed onto a gate on the A322, with a strong-smelling chemical coming from the property. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent specialist crews to attend the incident.

A spokesman for the SFRS said “We were called to an address in South Farm Lane around 9am today (December 9). Firefighters and specialist officers have been deployed following reports of a strong-smelling substance at the address. A police cordon is currently in place.” No further injuries have been reported as yet.

School Lockdown Alert News

Bodet’s Lockdown Alert System allows you to broadcast a unique lockdown alert, separate from other emergency alerts such as fire and evacuation. It can also produce distinct lockdown alerts to distinguish between partial and full lockdown. In this situation, it is likely that a partial lockdown was a sufficient response, where staff and pupils remain inside with external doors and windows locked, but free movement is normally permitted, depending on circumstances.

A full lockdown involves a higher degree of security. This typically entails pupils immediately returning to their agreed lockdown location, and remaining within it. Both exterior and interior doors are locked, classroom doors are often barricaded, and windows and blinds drawn. Pupils are normally encouraged to sit quietly and out of sight.

It is important that a Lockdown Alert System can broadcast separate alerts for both full and partial lockdowns, to ensure that all your students and staff know exactly how to respond and can take immediate appropriate action.

We would be happy to visit your school for a free demonstration so you can see how our Lockdown Alert System can be tailored for your specific needs. To arrange this, please contact us.
